DS Automobiles is demonstrating performance at the 2023 Rétromobile Show. Four models are on display, two high-tech laboratories and two production models that all embody performance.

SM PROTOTYPE (1973)

A driving test bed, this prototype was designed to trial increased acceleration on traction and directional stability at high speed. By means of controls and measuring devices, SM PROTOYPE enables the trim to be corrected or the adjustment of settings such as the weight distribution, suspension stiffness or the rate of roll, all while driving. This 340 horsepower prototype was used to develop competition models based on the SM.

  • 2-door, 2-seat, short-tail coupé.
  • 3.0 litre Maserati engine with four overhead camshafts, 3 Weber twin carburettors, 4 valves per cylinder. Actual power: 340 horsepower.
  • Hydraulic suspension front and rear.
  • Length: 4.35 m – Width: 1.71 m – Height: 1.10 m (stationary) – Weight: 1,169 kg.
  • Maximum speed: 285 km/h.

DS E-TENSE PERFORMANCE (2022)

Engineered to be a super high-performance laboratory, DS E-TENSE PERFORMANCE was designed by DS PERFORMANCE after winning two Drivers’ and two Teams’ titles in the Formula E Championship. During its first series of tests, DS E-TENSE PERFORMANCE has already covered more than 3,000 kilometres and recorded a 0 to 100 km/h of 2.0 seconds. The drivetrain is made up of two electric motors for a combined power of 600 kW (250 kW at the front and 350 kW at the back) which is 815 horsepower for acceleration but also regeneration and a torque of 8,000 Nm at the wheels. Direct derived from DS PERFORMANCE Formula E developments, these two electric motors show remarkable output.

  • 2-door, 2-seat coupé
  • Electric motors with 340 (front) and 475 (rear) horsepower.
  • Total power: 815 horsepower.
  • Length: 4.70 m – Width: 1.95 m – Height: 1.28 m – Weight: 1,250 kg.
  • Maximum speed: 250 km/h.

DS 21 PALLAS INJECTION ÉLECTRONIQUE (1970)

Benchmark for a century of motoring, the DS established a myth from its very first appearance in Paris in 1955. A revolutionary design, it introduced plenty of technology, among other things hydropneumatic suspension, power steering, a hydraulically controlled gearbox, braking assisted by disc brakes at the front and steering that pivots on the axis of the wheels. First shown with a 75 horsepower engine, the DS didn’t stop becoming more efficient. In September 1969, it became the first French production car to offer electronic injection, reaching 139 horsepower with a 2,175 cc engine for a top speed in excess of 185 km/h.

  • 4-door, 5-seat saloon
  • 2.2 litre engine, electronic injection. Actual power: 139 horsepower.
  • Hydraulic suspension front and rear.
  • Length: 4.80 m – Width: 1.79 m – Height: 1.47 m (stationary) – Weight: 1,170 kg.
  • Top speed: 185 km/h.

DS 9 E-TENSE 4x4 360 (2022)

DS 9 harnesses the excellence of French luxury expertise with an exclusive interior, designed and upholstered by the women and men from the Colours and Materials team and the DS Automobiles artisan upholsterers, based in the Paris area. Converted in France by the DS PERFORMANCE team, DS 9 E-TENSE 4x4 360 represents the best in DS Automobiles technology. With a 200 horsepower PureTech petrol engine combined with two electric motors of 81 kW (110 horsepower) at the front and 83 kW (113 horsepower) at the rear, as well as special adjustments, DS 9 E-TENSE 4x4 360 demonstrates leading-edge performance (0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds, 1,000 metres start-stop in 25.0 seconds).

  • 4-door, 5-seat saloon.
  • Plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a 1,598cc 200 horsepower engine and two electric motors with 100 (front) and 113 (rear) horsepower. Total power: 360 horsepower.
  • DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION camera-controlled damping.
  • Length: 4.93 m – Width: 1.93 m – Height: 1.46 m – Weight: 1,931 kg.
  • Top speed: 250 km/h.

As part of the close ties established since the creation of DS Automobiles, four clubs devoted to the DS and SM models will be present alongside the Brand throughout the Rétromobile Show: Euro SM Club, DS-ID Club of France, ParIDS and the Federation of DS Clubs.
