Runners-up at their home round after a high quality performance in their C3 WRC, Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm consolidated their pedigree as “Flying Finns”, the local crews who each year add another page to the history of this legendary event! Their performance, Citroën Total World Rally Team’s eighth podium of the season, was supplemented by a fine fifth place for Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia who, in spite of the French driver having suffered physically yesterday, were determined to hang in there and claim precious points for the championship.

One of the big movers on Saturday’s leg, notably grabbing two stage wins, Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm climbed to second overall and are now ideally placed to claim the C3 WRC’s eighth podium of the season. Despite suffering the effects of overnight illness, Sébastien Ogier nonetheless managed to make up two positions, to end the day fifth overall. He and Julien Ingrassia now have their eyes set on fourth place…

Totally at ease in the C3 WRC at their home round, Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm ended today’s opening leg third overall and are well placed to potentially challenge for overall victory. With very little between the times of the leading crews, the top four separated by just 2.6s, Ogier and Ingrassia ended day one seventh overall – despite the disadvantage of their road position – just 12.9s off the podium.

As is traditional, the WRC returns to action after the summer break at Rally Finland, one of the highlights of the season, for round nine of the championship. Ultra-fast stages on roller-coaster roads provide a unique challenge, and Citroën Total World Rally Team crews Sébastien Ogier – Julien Ingrassia and Esapekka Lappi – Janne Ferm, both former winners of the prestigious event, will be determined to keep their run of podium finishes going here.
