Recife, September 26, 2016

If last year Jeep® reinvented the compact SUV segment with Renegade, it arrived this time with the brand that created the 4x4 vehicle category to launch the new reference among medium-size SUVs: the entirely new Jeep Compass. Produced in the most modern plant of FCA - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), in Goiana (PE), the new model unites design, technology, performance and sophistication in an unprecedented manner in Brazil. All this summed up to the incomparable off-road capacity that is in the DNA of any Jeep brand vehicle. "How the family is complete," Sérgio Ferreira, CEO of the Jeep brand for Latin America, remarks. "Jeep Compass is going to build the bridge between the mega-success Renegade and our traditional line of imported products, composed of Cherokee, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. And as expected, the Jeep brand arrives to establish a new quality standard in this category with enormous potential of growth," he adds.

Jeep Compass dictates a new direction for the medium SUV category with a world class design. The model is going to make its debut in Brazil, both in production and in sales, and next year it will be produced in other plants, with offering in over 100 countries. Which shows the relevance of Latin America for the Jeep brand and the role that it can represent in the objective of conquering the leadership of the global SUV market.

For the first time in a vehicle produced in Brazil, the consumer will have access to an extremely advanced set of safety items, which will include adaptive cruising speed control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW) and frontal collision warning/prevention (FCWp), among others.

The mechanics of Jeep Compass stands out for contemporaneity and variety. There will be versions with the new flexible Tigershark 2.0 engine, which works in harmony with a 6-gear automatic transmission and 4x2 wheel drive. Other configurations of the new SUV will be driven by the consecrated Multijet II 2.0 turbo propeller, only diesel of the segment, whose force is distributed through a 9-gear automatic transmission (also exclusive in the segment) and through the Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 wheel drive, the most advanced of the category.

With Compass, the symbolism goes way beyond. "Most important instrument in the era of large navigations, the compass is connected perfectly to Jeep brand's four values, for being synonym of adventure and of freedom. A tool that, used by people filled with passion and authenticity, led humanity to unimaginable frontiers," Sérgio Ferreira explains.

Jeep Compass can already be ordered in 200 points of sale of the Jeep network in Brazil, in the following configurations: Sport, Longitude and Limited, equipped with Tigershark 2.0; and Longitude and Trailhawk, with Multijet II 2.0.

Design with Jeep sophistication and authenticity

The new Jeep Compass presents aesthetics with emotional and expressive lines, of great attitude and with exceptional proportions. The new SUV is immediately recognizable as a Jeep, not only for the typical characteristics (seven slit grill and mudguards with trapezoidal contours), but also for vestiges that remit to the brand's more sophisticated models, notably the Grand Cherokee. And without leaving aside unique touches, such as the descending roof line at the back, increasing the sportive appeal, but without damaging the internal space. The optical assemblies gained special attention from the designers, and for this reason they have LED signatures both in front and at the rear - standard since the initial version. The front lighting is completed by daylight lamps and fog lights, also items present in all configurations of the new Jeep, and by searchlight projectors, which can be xenon (Trailhawk and Limited).

The lines that denote force also appear on the hood, in form of a shell and with a sculptured central projection. But the most surprising and sophisticated feature is the frieze that starts at the base of column A, accompanies the upper line of the lateral windows, crosses column C, goes around the rear window through the side and under - and it repeats this path on the other side.

The interior brings materials and finish unparalleled in the segment, making very cozy the spacious cabin, without losing sight the functionality inherent to the products of the Jeep brand. Advanced, the central portion of the panel confers a "buffed" appearance and shows the inspiration in the trunk of the human body. The idea is completed with the soft to the touch overlay on the panel cover, representing the texture of the skin. There are even refined details with dark gray or "piano black" finish, in accordance with the version.

As if the beauty of the style was not enough, Jeep Compass brings those already famous easter eggs of the brand. Just like children who hunt for eggs on Easter day, the fun here is to look for curious details hidden where you least imagine. There are details from a salamander (symbol of climbers) up to the Loch Ness monster, going through tire tracks of the pioneer Jeep Willys MB. Beside that they clearly demonstrate that the designers follow to the letter one of the values of the brand, freedom, these small surprises remit to Jeep's extremely rich history, which has just completed 75 years, with more energy than ever - as the consecutive historical records in global sales of the brand prove since 2012.

Unprecedented technology

Even before going into Jeep Compass, the Keyless Enter 'n' Go presence key (standard from the Longitude versions) already starts to present the extensive list of technological equipment, made to facilitate and, especially, to protect all occupants. With the key in the pocket, it is possible to go into the vehicle and startup by pressing the button on the steering wheel column. The presence key can even have the remote startup option of the engine, permitting the cabin to be previously acclimatized.

Right in front of the driver, the configurable TFT screen (present in all versions) on the dashboard presents almost two dozens of information from the on board computer and other systems, as example audio, GPS navigation, telephony and safety resources. It can be colored and 7 inches, highlighting even further internal refinement. Everything is activated by buttons in the left radius of the steering wheel, which also holds cruising speed control commands (including ACC, when equipped), of the speed and audio limiter. The on board welfare can be expanded with electric seats for the driver (8 directions) and passenger (4).

Every Jeep Compass will have the practical and efficient Uconnect multimedia system with touch screen, integrated GPS navigator, reverse gear camera and Bluetooth and USB connections, such that now starting with the Longitude version, the monitor is 8.4 inch colored, with additional functions such as air conditioning control and even more advanced voice commands. The sound quality is even better with the optional sound system of the renowned Beats brand, with power of 506 Watts, 9 speakers and a sub-woofer.

The standard safety package includes, among other items, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation (ERM), tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), cruising speed control, ascent startup control, hill start assist (HSA), disc brakes on the four wheels with ABS, three fixation points of Isofix baby car seats, direction repeaters in the external rear view mirrors, fog lights with cornering function (it lights up on the side that is steered in maneuvers or at low speeds) and the dynamic steering torque (DST), which induces the driver to turn the steering wheel correctly in a loss of adherence situation.

Among the optional items for the Sport and Longitude versions (standard for Limited and Trailhawk) there are two more side airbags, two curtain airbags and one for the driver's knees, making a total of seven bags when summed up to the two obligatory front airbags. But the major highlight is the set of resources that makes Jeep Compass to reach an unparalleled level among the national vehicles. It is formed by adaptive speed control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW), automatic high beam (AHB) and frontal collision warning and prevention (FCWP), which includes automatic braking. Another high technology item is the automatic parking system, Park Assist, which operates in parallel and perpendicular spaces.

Flawless performance. On any terrain

Whatever the engine may be, Jeep Compass delivers excellent performance. The versions animated by the flexible Tigershark 2.0 propeller will have at disposal a power of up to 166 hp and a torque of 20.5 kgfm. Such force will be distributed to the front wheels by the automatic 6-gear transmission, with panels behind the steering wheel now starting with the Longitude option.

When it is moved by the Multijet II turbo diesel 2.0 engine, Jeep's new medium SUV has an automatic 9-gear transmission - always with panels behind the steering wheel - and Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 wheel drive. This system is going to work with the power of 170 hp and 35.7 kgfm - number that represents the largest torque of the category, with 80% (28.5 kgfm) already available at low speeds of 1,500 rpm. With this, Jeep Compass provides not only excellent startups and recoveries, such as high fuel economy. In comparison with the best petrol powered turbo competitor, the cost per kilometer traveled of the new Jeep is 10% lower.

With 4WD Low (reduced) function, the Jeep Active Drive Low traction present in the diesel configuration of Jeep Compass is responsible also for the best off-road performance of the segment. It comes with the Selec-Terrain system, the only one in the category, which prepares the vehicle to deal with the ground in the best possible way. Just by turning the selector on the central console and the mechanical set is adapted to the Snow (for slippery terrains), Sand, Mud and Rock modes, the latter is exclusive for the Trailhawk version. Or therefore Compass does everything alone in the Auto mode.

The intelligence of the Jeep Active Drive Low system is present in other ways. When the traction in the four wheels is not necessary, the rear shaft remains totally disconnected, to economize fuel and to reduce the wear out of components. But the power transfer unit (PTU) located in front couples anew automatically the cardan shaft that distributes the torque to the rear wheels, in case a situation of risk is detected. For example, when starting an uphill with the windshield wipers activated - in this case the system understands that the ground is slippery and it already anticipates any eventuality.

It is worth emphasizing that the off-road capacity of Jeep Compass Trailhawk is high at a higher power with the following changes: 2 cm higher suspension, special tires for mixed use, additional protection plates under the chassis and frosted black adhesive at the center of the hood. Opposite to what has been imagined, it has a practical function, that of eliminating the driver's glare, cutting undesired reflections from the sun or another external light source. Due to all this, this version receives the Trail Rated 4x4 seal, proving that the vehicle overcame Jeep's criteria for five issues: articulation, distance from the ground, maneuverability, transposition in water (in case, up to 48 cm) and traction.

Construction quality and elegance

Jeep Compass' design was thought of thoroughly to meet the requirements of the planet's most demanding markets, and this care is present in the units that are going to come out of the most modern plant of the FCA - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group in Goiana, Pernambuco. They are details that go from 5,000 welding points in the chassis in the light of courtesy in the external rear view mirrors, of the three microphones on the roof to capture the voice commands to 18 noise dampers spread throughout the chassis. Without mentioning the employment of high strength steel (HSS) in about 70% of the chassis, to increase the rigidity and to refine the dynamic behavior and absorption of impacts.

The major objective is to make the quality of product speak for itself. And in order to reach such goal, means and efforts were not spared. Case of the McPherson architecture in the rear shaft, causing the new Jeep to have independent suspension in the four wheels. This provides vast gains in driving comfort, stability and safety. Simpler, but not less important, the electric parking brake is so convenient that in daily life activities it is possible to forget its existence. Without mentioning the best use of space and style of the central console.

Special after sales for a unique vehicle

The elegance of the design is replicated in after sales. Aside from being present with technical assistance in 164 points of the 200 of the Jeep network, Mopar prepared the plan of checkups up to 60,000 km at closed prices, with labor included, and a varied and sensible service program to serve consumers in an original way for Jeep in Brazil. With Mopar Vehicle Protection (MVP), Jeep Compass with Multijet II 2.0 diesel engine will have packages, with closed prices, from two to five checkups. For versions with flexible Tigershark 2.0 engine, up to eight checkups could be acquired in advance.

Other novelties of Mopar will be packages that will give right to a set of services. As, for example, two oil changes and a direction alignment, or three oil changes and an alignment. There will also be the offering of extending the Privilege Service 24 hours assistance benefits, which normally lasts for three years, for one or two more years. It is also important to highlight that Mopar has two warehouses in Brazil, to make every faster the dislocation of spare parts (good part of them are national). For Compass alone, there are already 2,500 available components.

The guaranty of Jeep Compass is three years (which can be extended for another one or two yeas) without limit of kilometers traveled. The checkups will be done for every 12,000 km in the units with the Flex propeller and for every 20,000 km in those that are diesel powered. Also without time limit, so as not to harm the consumers who travel less - only change of oil and filter has to be done annually. With respect to accessories, another important frontline of Mopar, Jeep Compass already arrives with over 40 items (record number for the segment), such that half of them was developed especially for the new model.
